My name is Rachel Arsenault and I am an independent graphic designer. I have always been passionate about art, graphic design, and typography. My experience with page layout and drawing vector files began over 20 years ago with the primitive versions of Aldus PageMaker, Aldus Freehand, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator 88.
Since those early days, my graphic design experience has cumulated from creative positions at small family run print shops, medium sized marketing firms, and as an independent graphic designer. Graphic design is an organic profession. It is always changing, growing, moving, and expanding into different trends, technologies, and methods to communicate a message. This is the reason I find graphic design exciting and I am always learning and expanding my skills and perspective to keep my designs fresh.
Graphic Design is not only my profession…it is my passion. I am eager to learn about your business and your goals. I will work with you to develop concepts and ideas that will get results for your business.
Most recently, I was employed full time as a Graphic Designer/Creative Services Director for a marketing company in Freeport, Maine. My responsibilities at this company involved:
- Creation and preparation of digital artwork for imprinting on promotional products, embroidery, and screen printed while maintaining the integrity, identity or brand standards of each logo.
- Designed marketing material such as flyers, catalogs, and advertisements.
- Designed and maintained graphics for individual webstores including the overall color scheme, front page, and product images.
I loved the work that I did at my previous job, but the company felt the effects of the economy, and I was laid off in 2012. This allowed me to form my own company and offer my experience and skills as an independent graphic designer.
Through the years, I have freelanced on and off even when employed full time. I always loved how it allowed me to interact with a different dynamic of clients and provided more creative opportunities than my regular job did. Once I was laid off, I embraced this opportunity to further branch out and broaden my scope of design projects.
Working as an independent graphic designer helps keep me engaged and motivated about the design work that I love to do. It inspires me to stay fresh and informed on current waves. Experience allows me to identify trends that may become outdated quickly resulting in long lasting and effective logo identities and marketing material.
Since going solo, I have worked on many rewarding projects including newsletter design for the town I live in, new business identities for several start-up companies, and packaging design for the products they offer.
I also work as a subcontractor for several screen printers and promotional products distributors across the country. I love this type of work and am always seeking to add more to my schedule.
I enjoy helping promotional products and screen printing distributors with:
- Graphic design work overflow
- Bitmapped to vector file conversion
- Catalog design
- Webstore graphics
- Client proofs
- And other production type work
For some distributors, I AM their staff graphic designer even though I work independently from home. For others, I am available when they need me during their busy times or to help cover vacations.
I have extensive experience with preparing vector artwork for Embroidery, Silk Screening, Printing, and Ad Specialties and Promotional Items.
In addition, I have 20 years of graphic design experience in logo development and identity design, and marketing literature such as brochures, catalogs, postcards, newsletters, magazine and newspaper ads, and flyers.
A BS in Business Administration allows me to not only create quality designs, but to also keep your business’ success in mind with every project. Some examples of my graphic design work can be found here.
